How to Prioritize Self-Care as a Busy Mom: Advice from a Professional Life Coach

Fellow mama, when was the last time you had a full night of uninterrupted peaceful sleep?

Honestly, motherhood is an all-time job with absolutely no days off. And I cannot emphasize this enough - practicing self-care for busy moms is a necessity. When you take care of yourself and feel connected to your inner being, you execute immense warmth, joy, and happiness. As a result, you can tend to your family better.

Being a mother myself, I know how hard it can be to squeeze in time for ourselves. There is always an endless list of house chores, errands, and tasks. In essence, juggling between work/life balance can leave you chronically fatigued and exhausted.

Between constant workload, how on earth can mothers get the time to stretch, sleep, meditate, or relax peacefully? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! To get you started I have enlisted 5 completely doable self-care ideas for working mamas.

Go for a walk

Walking is one of the easiest exercises that you can do as a busy mom. Taking a stroll in nature improves your mood and also keeps you physically fit. Bonus part? It will give you more time for yourself.

Early mornings are your best friends

If the schedule is tight, practicing self-care for busy moms can pose quite a challenge. To combat this, establish a relaxing morning routine. Wake up 20-30 minutes early to have your #ME time. Utilize this time for meditation, journaling, or establishing a skincare routine before the whole family wakes up…and you are on the go again. Make your favorite cup of coffee and sip it in peace.

You have no idea how doing simple things can create a big impact on your well-being.

Join a yoga class

Another great self-care idea for spiritual women is to join a yoga class. It connects your mind, body, and soul and lets you relieve some of your pent-up stress. In essence, it allows you to unwind and connect with your inner self after a long day of being a mom. The asanas and breathing techniques calm your mind and elevate your mood.

Find time to reconnect with yourself

Let’s be real; mothers hardly get the time to kick their feet up - something that needs your attention always arises as soon as you lay for a short shut-eye. If you are a busy mom, it is SO important that you intentionally take some time out for yourself. And no, it doesn’t mean cooking or cleaning. It means to check in with your inner self and do something that gives YOU joy. It can be taking a nap or relaxing in a hot bath, sipping your favorite coffee, or going out to see your best friend.

Most of the time, I have seen moms feeling guilty for taking out some time for themselves. Remember-Dads don’t feel guilt when they leave for golf league night, work late at the office, or meet buddies at a sports bar to watch football. Moms shouldn’t feel guilty either! Swap your guilt emotions with self-love. Self-care for busy moms is not selfish. On the contrary, it nourishes your mind and body. If you are a mama who is tired and exhausted, you really need to try something for yourself- something that brings you joy or allows you to unwind and recharge. Trust me, you will feel amazing after that!
