Turning Over a New Leaf: Organizing Your Home for Fall

Fall. The season of change, where the trees let go of their leaves in a dazzling display of colors. It's a time of renewal and release. But for many overwhelmed mothers, fall isn't just about pumpkin spiced lattes and cozy scarves. It's about preparing our homes and hearts for the colder months ahead. Today, I'm here to help you navigate this seasonal transition by decluttering and organizing your home.

The Fall Philosophy: Decluttering Like The Trees

Have you ever noticed how trees let go of their leaves without hesitation? They don’t cling to them thinking, “Maybe I’ll need this next spring.” Just like nature, fall should remind us to let go of what we don’t need. Decluttering isn’t about getting rid of things but creating space for what truly matters.

The Purge: Saying Goodbye to Summer Clutter

Before we tuck into our warm cocoons, let’s declutter:

  • Summer Clothes: As you stow away summer dresses and flip flops, consider what you didn't wear. Donate them.

  • Outdoor Toys: Check for broken pool toys, frisbees, or any other summer-specific items that won’t make it to next year.

  • Expired Products: From sunscreens to BBQ sauces, ensure your home isn’t hoarding expired goods.

Why Declutter?

Decluttering is therapeutic. When I hit my low in 2016, I felt trapped, much like how our homes feel when cluttered. By physically creating space in my surroundings, I also made room for healing and growth mentally and emotionally.

Organizing for Fall: Practical Storage Tips

Embrace the Bins and Labels

As the cooler weather settles in, you'll be reaching for those warm sweaters and cozy throws. But where did you put them last spring?

Storage Bins: Categorize fall essentials in clear bins. One for sweaters, one for holiday decor, and maybe one for those craft supplies for indoor activities.

Labels: They're lifesavers! By labeling each bin, you eliminate the hunt next year.

Children's Rooms

If you're a mother, you know the battlefield that a child's room can become.

  • Rotating Toys: Store away some toys and introduce them later. It keeps things fresh for the little ones and reduces mess.

  • School Prep Zone: Create a space where school bags, books, and supplies have a dedicated spot. A little organization now can save a lot of morning chaos.

A Nod to Sentiments: What to Keep

While decluttering, we sometimes come across items that tug at our heartstrings. The key is balance.

  • Memory Boxes: Allocate a box for each family member. When it gets full, it’s time to reassess.

  • Digital Memories: Consider converting physical items like children’s artwork into digital memories.

In the Midst of Organizing, Don't Forget to Breathe

I understand the overwhelming feeling. In my journey of rediscovering myself, I learned the importance of pausing. So, in the whirlwind of organizing, take a moment. Sip your favorite tea, gaze out at the falling leaves, and remember that it's okay to take it one step at a time.

As fall graces us, let's embrace the change both outside and within our homes. Just like I embarked on my journey to unsubscribe from the unnecessary, this fall offers a chance to unsubscribe from the clutter in our homes.

For those overwhelmed mothers, remember, each item you let go of, each space you declutter, is a step towards a more harmonious home and a peaceful mind. And isn't that the warm, comforting embrace we all seek as the days get colder?

As the leaves fall and you cozy up in your freshly organized home, consider delving deeper into decluttering not just your surroundings, but also your life.
